History of Long Close

Founded in 1940, originally as a boys’ school, Long Close has developed into a co-educational preparatory day school with a well-established reputation for friendliness and achievement.

Occupying a large and attractive site in Upton, Long Close now accepts children to the nursery from 2 years of age and prepares children for the 11+ entrance examinations to senior schools in and GCSE.

In 2004, Asquith Court Schools were bought by Cognita Ltd, a new education company chaired by Chris Woodhead, the first Chief Inspector of Schools. Cognita has 18 schools in its portfolio and is the largest independent schools business in the UK.

The school site has undergone extensive refurbishment to modernise its facilities and to ensure that it is well placed to provide an enriched education in which its pupils will flourish.
