Mrs Battersby Head of Pre Prep writes……

I am delighted to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Pre Prep Department (Nursery through to Yr 2). These first years in your child’s educational journey are as I am sure you will agree the ‘crucial years’ in  their development and I am very lucky to have an excellent mixture of youth and experience amongst my staff who all share a passion for their job. Take the opportunity to talk to them and this will shine through.

My own teaching experience has seen me teach in Nurseries through to Yr 5 which means that I have an excellent understanding of where children are as they enter my care and where they need to be when they leave me at the end of Year 2

A family atmosphere are the words that come up often when people are asked to describe us and we as staff feel that too. On the many trips I have been on with children from this school I have often been stopped by people who comment on how smart, well-mannered and well-behaved our children are. This makes me immensely proud and is recognition that working alongside parents we are getting things right

Within the Nursery and Reception classes the emphasis is firmly on learning through play and this idea of learning being fun is followed through into Year 1 and 2 where the staff are encouraged to be as creative and adventurous as possible and to home in on every child’s individual needs.

Twice a year we engage in ‘Curriculum Collapse’, when we choose a topic such as ‘Space’ or ‘Under the sea’ and ask the children what they would like to find out about these subjects. These have been immensely popular with the children producing wonderful pieces of creative writing and artwork.
