Long Close School

Parental Engagement Group

PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT GROUP (PEG)

The Parental Engagement Group (PEG) is a new initiative that we introduced last Spring Term.  It was born out of a desire to improve the way in which we communicate with parents and develop effective feedback.

In my time as Head Teacher of Long Close School I have found it extremely important to engage with you, as parents, to discuss the education that we are offering at Long Close. This engagement is on occasions informal, a chat at the school gate, or more formal like the Parental Questionnaires issued by OFSTED or Cognita in previous years. We have also introduced a range of educational initiatives, like the Curriculum Development Evenings that have offered parental involvement with the academic curriculum.

To this end, we held our second Parental Engagement Group on Tuesday, 18th October, 2011.  Thank you to those parents who gave so generously of their time and contributed positively at the Octobrer event.  We had a busy and lively agenda with some key Hot Spots, Medium and Long Term Objectives identified.

Hot Spots we have addressed to date include: Extra after school clubs for junior and senior pupils; a new four week menu; more challenges for gifted and talented children and a new mentoring system for new pupils.

At that meeting we promised that we would hold a follow up workshop in the Spring Term.  The next workshop will be held on Tuesday, 27th March, 2012.  We look forward to seeing you there.

These workshops are suitable for any parents who are interested in helping shape and develop the future of Long Close School and provide quality and robust feedback. This forum is hearing about parental opinions, concerns and ideas!
