At a recent school reunion we caught up with some of Long Close’s past pupils and teachers. Here is an update of what they’re doing now. If you would like to share your achievements with Long Close alumni contact the school office or register on our “Contact Old Friends” page.

Former pupils

Scott Adam: Now doing well in Lower VI at Reading Bluecoats.

Amir Anand: 3rd Year at King’s College, London

Rishi Anand: Leaving Eton College this year.

Marek Arnold: Finishing Year 10 at LVS.

Adrian Bettridge: Squadron Leader in the RAF, awarded an MBE.

Edgar Bettridge: In retirement after 9 years in a Merchant bank in London. He cycled from Calais to Beijing and is now in Bussieres writing a book.

Laurence Birdsey: At Windsor Boys School studying Sports Science, Biology and Chemistry. He is a Prefect and Captain of the School Boat Club.

Michael Brenner: Doing well in Upper VI at Pangbourne.

Natalie Brenner: Currently in Year 11 at Pangbourne and one of two girls in the Marine Corps.

Charles Brooker: Enjoying Year 9 at Shiplake, playing Rugby.

Tim Burden: Works in Scunthorpe on a Corporate Graduate Sponsorship.

Richard Carey: Left Langley Grammar in 2002 and read Aerospace Engineering at Southampton University for a year. Now reading Computer Science.

Stuart Carey: In Lower Lower VI at Langley Grammar. He is a keen Football Player.

Andrew Clemens: He now works in Advertising and has rediscovered rugby with Drifters.

Matthew Clemens: He is in his 3rd Year at Wellington College and loves Rugby, CCF and Music.

Michael Clemens: He is in his 3rd Year at Bristol University reading Politics.

Chris Dale and Graham Dale: Both are in the Film Business

Rhoma Deans: Doing well in Upper VI at St Bernard’s

Ryan Deans: Doing well in Lower VI at St. Bernard’s.

Ben Drew: At St. Mary's, Twickenham.

Greg Drew: Now in Year 11 at Windsor Boys’ School.

Tom Green: Now in Lower VI at Windsor Boys’ School. He is a keen Rugby player and Rower and a Bronze Medalist at National level.

Matthew Hanney: SPS at Jesus, Cambridge. He spent his Gap year working in the Press Office of Lib. Dem. HQ in London. He plays Rugby and Fives for Jesus College.

Rachel Hanney: Studying medicine at York University.

Andy Heavyside: Reading medicine at Aberdeen. Midshipman in the Royal Navy Reserve and President of the Aberdeen University Conservative Party.

David Heavyside: Is now at Thorpe House. He plays Rugby, Cricket for Beaconsfield and played for Buckinghamshire U10s the last two seasons. He is training with U11 this winter.

Adam Janisch: Now works in the City.

Rupert Janisch: Is a working journalist writing for the Bristol Evening Post.

Tim Janisch: Is now working for a London-based management consultancy firm.

Alistair Jones: Studied Computer Science at Churchill, Cambridge. Spent 3 years in Nottingham working for Capitol One. Now works for “Thoughtworks” in Hemel Hempstead. He is the Captain of Men’s Rowing at Eton Excelsior Rowing Club.

Rebecca Jones: Left Pangbourne College in 2003. She is at Grey College, Durham to study Archaeology and Anthropology. She plays Rugby for Slough and aims to become a songwriter.

Natalie Klamar: After successfully finishing at Becky High she attended Westminster to study Music and is now is studying Drama.

Ben Lett: Reading Maths at Bath University, on last leg of 6 month tour.

James Lewis: Still a superb cricketer, he went to Pangbourne and is now at University.

Holly Lewis: Now in Lower VI at Pangbourne.

Edward Macaulay: Obtained his IB Diploma earlier this year and has just started a Physics Degree at Imperial College, London.

Jack Macaulay: Obtained his IB Diploma from ACS Egham in 2003 and is now in his second year as a law student at King's College, London.

Stephen MacCanville: Now in Lower VI at Pangbourne, chosen to play rugby for Surrey.

Jesica MacCanville: Still a keen netball player.

Dave Maskell: Rumoured to be married with a baby.

Victoria O’Doherty: In her second Year at Exeter University.

Edmund Pegge: Attended Long Close 1949 to 1952, went to Australia in 1954. Returned in 1965 having become a professional actor, has sustained a career both here and there over the past 43 years. With a colleague performs poetry for all ages and conducts creative writing workshops. Recently returned from Australia to re-establish his career here and to pursue his educational interests.

Jack Perryman: Currently in the Upper V1 at Windsor Boys’. He is hoping to go into the Army and eventually on to Sandhurst.

Craig Ridge: Finishing at Windsor Boys' School this Summer.

Simon Ridge: Now in Year 11 at Windsor Boys’ School.

Kasra Rothwell: Graduated from University of Durham in 2003, BA Hons.

Matthew Saxby: Runs his own IT company in West Drayton and a Special Constable for Thames Valley Police.

Amandeep Sibia: Went to Eton and now attends Durham University. He is also training as a football coach.

Munleen Sibia: Is now in the Upper VI at Wycombe Abbey. She is Head of House and an excellent Netball player, playing for the 1st VII. She also plays tennis for the school and County.

Alexa Smith: Achieved a 2:1 at Leeds in Medical Sciences.

Rupert Smith: Reading Maths and Management at Nottingham University. On last leg of 6 month tour.

Sheridan Steiger: Doing well at Langley Grammar in Lower VI.

Stuart Suttie: Gained BSc 2:1 in Computer Science from Kent University.

Katherine Suttie: Is in her first year at Nottingham Trent University doing Business Studies.

Scott Taylor: Gained a 2:1 in Medicine at Bristol University.

Edward Tewari: Graduated from the University of Manchester with BSc in Psychology, summer 2004.

Philip Tewari: In his second year at the University of Reading reading Philosophy.

Craig Ting: Achieved AAA at RGS and is now reading History at St. Cuthbert's College, Durham. He is also keen on Rowing and playing Rugby and Football.

Fiona Ting: In Year 7 at Langley Grammar. She plays the flute, bassoon and the piano.

Rebecca Ting: In her final year studying English at Exeter College, Oxford. After graduating she plans to make an expedition to the magnetic North Pole. She has just been selected to row for Oxford in the Boat Race 2005.

Alex Tovey: In Year 10 at Windsor Boys. Still running successfully.

Seb Van Lochem: Achieved good results at GCSE and is now studying A levels at Pangbourne. He leaves this Summer.

Lucy Waite: Currently in the Upper V1 at St. Bernard’s.

Alex Williams: Leaves Windsor Boys this Summer.

Nick Williams: Is in Year 11 at Shiplake and enjoying the Rugby and Rowing.

Blake Winder: At Ravensbourne College in Kent doing post production, sound engineering and video editing.

Toby Winder: At Ravensbourne College, in his first year doing animation.

Former staff

Anne Bettridge: Has spent 7 years in retirement and is loving it. She spends half the year in Slough and half in Bussieres just outside Lyon. Along with her husband she helps the French locals learn to speak English. She also translates signs and things for the local weaving museum.

Geoff Croasdale: He is retired but always busy! He and Wendy are looking for a property in France to visit certain times of the year. He would love to hear from past pupils. Thankfully he has recovered from his awful set-back and is now home from hospital. He is also hoping to make it to the reunion in the summer.

Helen Dawes: Is now a lady of leisure looking after her baby son – Harry.

Martin Kneath: Is taking up a new post as Headmaster of an international school in Bangkok. He and Ailsa are hoping to come to the reunion.

Todd McAuley: Is currently living in Sussex but is thinking of returning to New Zealand to live permanently.

Peter Marshall: Now teaches DT at St. George’s Windsor.

Caroline Shuttleworth: She is enjoying retirement with her husband.

Keith Smith: He is semi-retired and spends a great deal of time fishing.

Jonathon Spooner: He is now Director of Studies. He is married with a son and a daughter.

Martin Thorne: He is returning to Long Close for at least a term to teach English and History.

David and Mary Turner: Are fit and well and still leading busy lives, living in Hedgerley.

Terry Wintle: Got married at Christmas

Chris Clifford and Margaret Waite: Are leaving this summer so now is the time to come and say your goodbyes, although hopefully they will return to other reunions.
