LONG CLOSE ANNUAL UNDER 11s 7 ASIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

A fantastic afternoon of football was had by 8 local schools at the Long Close School Under 11 7 a side Tournament.

Teams from local primary schools including: Montem; Lynch Hill; Penn Wood; St Mary’s C of E; Holy Family; Godolphin; Marish and Long Close battled to win the fast paced tournament.

The group stage was very well contested, with some very close matches all played in a fantastic spirit.  St Mary’s qualified to play Penn Wood and Montem went through to face Long Close.  Both semi finals ended up goalless and had to be decided by penalty shoot out.  After several tense penalties were taken, Penn Wood and Long Close had made it into the final.

This again was an extremely tight game and like the semi-finals ended up in a penalty shoot out.  Long close kept their cool and just edged the shoot out to win the tournament for the first time.  All the schools involved had a great afternoon of football, demonstrating some excellent skills and sportsmanship.

David Brazier, Head Teacher said “this was a wonderful community event played in great spirit – it introduces pupils and parents from local primary schools to Long Close. Well done to all teams and players involved and congratulations to the Long Close Team.  All players were a credit to their schools.
