Year 10 Work Experience
Year 10 Work Experience
The students of Year 10 at Long Close were put to work by East Berkshire Education Business Partnership (EBeBP) during a ‘Skills for Life’ session as part of their Work Experience placement.
The aim of the session was to raise awareness of the need for appropriate clothing in the workplace and the fact that what is deemed appropriate varies across different industries. The pupils had several activities to complete over the morning and developed an awareness of what is acceptable and required when in a workplace environment. This included a health and safety talk and a “Dress to Impress” task.
The group were split into three groups and given a job description. The pupils then had to dress a mannequin with appropriate clothing for that specific work setting. The choices made by the pupils were spot on and even managed to include vital accessories!
EBeBP very kindly arranged for the Diversity Action Recruitment Team from the British Army, led by Warrant Officer Ashok Kumar Chauhan MBE, to address the pupils and provide them with an insight into opportunities provided within the Army. To add to this, the pupils were given many scenarios that may occur in any workplace and were shown how to resolve issues correctly and incorrectly.
The pupils left the session feeling prepared for their work experience placement and also with a greater understanding of what to expect in the world of work.
All the class are eager to now complete their work experience placements in March this year. Thanks must go to EBeBP for arranging the Skills for Life session.
Head Teacher, David Brazier said that this was part of our enrichment programme for senior pupils with the intention to develop their leadership skills and personal initiatives.
