Long Close School SATS results beat national average by almost 20%

Long Close School has confirmed that 71% of all pupils in Year 6 achieved the expected standard in all three subjects compared with the national average of 53%. This year, the expected standard of achievement has been raised and the accountability framework for schools has also changed, which makes these results even more impressive.

A further breakdown of the results show that in English reading, 75% reached the standard compared to a national average of 66%. For English grammar, punctuation and spelling, 83% reached the standard compared to a national average of 70%. And in mathematics, 87% reached the standard compared to a national average of 70%.

Speaking about the results, the Headmaster, Mr Pavey, said: “We always knew that this year was going to be difficult because the expected standards are higher, but I’m delighted that our pupils have done so well.  They put in a lot of hard work, which has paid off, and a lot of credit has to go to their teachers as well. Well done to all those involved.”
