From the age of 2 children enjoy a warm welcome at the start of their Long Close journey, joining our Nursery before making the transition to Pre-School and then into Reception Class.

What makes us unique?

  • In the Early Years, we adopt a child-led approach, tailoring activities to match the children's interests and choices. By following their lead, the children stay engaged, excited, and captivated by their daily learning.

  • We align all of our activities with the Early Years Curriculum, encompassing communication and language, physical development, personal, social, and emotional development, as well as literacy, maths, and expressive arts.

  • Our children enjoy swimming lessons, outdoor learning in our forest school and beyond, as well as ballet and Spanish.

By leveraging the naturally inquisitive nature of children, we create a curriculum that is engaging and interesting.

We listen to their passions and their questions, developing lessons that help them to explore their areas of curiosity. Through this type of learning, children experience an education that is enjoyable and exciting, opening doors to new worlds of exploration, knowledge and fun!

Early Academic Achievement

The overall achievement of pupils within our Early Years setting is excellent, with attainment significantly above the national average. This is testament to the exceptional quality of our staff and their teaching at this pivotal stage.
In 2024, our Reception class achieved a Good Level of Development of 94%, demonstrating an outstanding level of attainment compared to the national average of 71.5%.

Outdoor Learning and Forest School

We know that our children love to explore the world around them, and that time spent outdoors and in the natural environment has a wide variety of benefits for them. Our on-site Forest School, Early Years Garden and outdoor learning area, provide our youngest learners with a magical and immersive experience in the great outdoors that sparks their curiosity and fosters a lifelong love for nature.
