Sports

Encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle amongst all pupils

During their time at Long Close, our children enjoy regular PE, games and swimming lessons as part of their weekly timetable. Along the way, they learn to play sports such as rugby, football, cricket, hockey, netball, gymnastics, athletics and rounders, discovering the values of teamwork, discipline and practice, while experiencing the exhilaration and fulfilment of well-marshalled competition.

We are fortunate to have two excellent Astro-turf pitches, cricket nets, a bowling machine and a long-jump pit within the school grounds, and plenty of surrounding parkland for games such as rugby and rounders.

Our sports programme helps students to develop their physical skills.

Sports Teams

A sports team for every child

We have a busy schedule of sports fixtures with other schools, and we take pride in our excellent performance and the exemplary sporting behaviour of our pupils before, during, and after fixtures.

Our football and cricket teams have enjoyed great success against other local schools. We also feel it is important that every pupil is offered the opportunity to represent the school in sport, so we have competitive matches to suit different ability levels.

Our sporting endeavours are a source of great pride to the school, and we take particular pleasure when our pupils achieve further outside success. A number of our pupils have recently represented Berkshire Cricket at Under 11 level and enjoyed playing cricket at County level.

Long Close school also has links to Slough Hockey Club for Girls Hockey.

All of this is possible thanks to a team of specialist sports teachers who work with all of our pupils – from the oldest to the youngest. We believe this blanket commitment to quality is one of the key benefits of our status as an all-through school.

Long Close’s location, on the outskirts of Slough, means it also benefits from the use of vast open spaces that surround the campus. These are used rugby, football, cricket and rounders. We also have two Astro-turf courts on site which are used for tennis, netball, hockey and 5-a-side football.

Pupils also have access to Sport Leader training, including Young Ambassadors and also Badminton Leaders awards.
