Long Close School Development Project
I am writing to follow up our parent meeting last week and confirm exciting plans to expand and enhance our facilities and educational offering at Long Close School. These are changing and exciting times in the field of education and, over the last year since my arrival at LCS, we have been finalising our development plans in order to improve the educational experience we can offer the children in our care. Following an extensive research and analysis of feedback from our parent body, we are now in a position to be able to share more details of these exciting plans with you.
Subject to planning permission, Phase 1 work will begin this July on specialist a sports facility, which is targeted for completion by the end of December 2018. Further work will then provide additional learning environments to support Science, Technology, Innovation and the Performing Arts. Our plans also include a significant landscaping scheme designed to establish a learning village feel to the school site, in-line with our place in the Green Belt.
The ‘LCS Evolves’ project represents a significant investment in our school by Cognita and joining us at last weeks meeting was Stuart Rolland (CEO, Europe) and Daniel Ratcliffe (CFO, Europe) from the Cognita Executive Team. Their ongoing support in developing this project has been invaluable and we will continue to work closely over the next 18 months to ensure work progresses smoothly and with minimal impact on the day-to-day running of the school.
At the meeting, we shared with parents a number of artists impressions of the new facilities together with a wider overview of our vision for Long Close School. Most importantly, this project supports our aim of delivering the very best pupil outcomes to all by maintaining the very best of independent school ideals – balancing the pastoral and academic needs of pupils in order to provide a truly holistic education.
Over the last four years at LCS, we have seen a renewed leadership structure, academic standards, increased opportunities and pupil welfare go hand in hand as we focus on character development and nurturing a global perspective in equal measure. These same characteristics will form the cornerstone of our extended provision of character education,
- Class-based teaching in the Junior School (Reception – Year 5), following the National Curriculum+, with all of the expertise that we currently enjoy plus enhanced specialist teaching in Sport, Art/DT, and introducing Forest School to our curriculum.
- Specialist-based teaching in Years 6, 7 and 8 (Lower Senior), following the ISEB Common Entrance Syllabus and offering the LCS Diploma as part of our Character Development and Enrichment Programme.
- Years 9-11 will see pupils follow a 3-Year GCSE Programme, allowing them the time to broaden their appreciation of the core subjects (English, Lang & Lit, Maths, Science x 3) as well as their 4 optional subjects, from a wide range of choices. In addition, all Year 9 pupils will complete the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, with Year 10 pupils having the option to complete their Silver Award.
The timeline below outlines the facilities work that will take place in phases over the next 18 months.

We know from ongoing feedback and discussion with our parents, that enhanced facilities as part of a modern approach to teaching and learning are a priority. WE are immensely proud, and extremely excited, to be leading this next phase of Long Close School’s history, which will provide an inspiring educational experience for our pupils through Year 11.
Over the next coming weeks and months, we understand that you will have questions about our evolving plans and we want to keep you informed at every stage. To that end we will hold a number of clinics where, over coffee, we can discuss the progress of ‘LCS Evolves’ and any questions you may have. We will provide further details in due course but in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me should you wish to discuss anything further.

The team that we took to the event was ; Dania, Daania, Ria, Layla, Simran, Vishaali, Umairah, Simran, and Amrissar. The event took place in Wexham Secondary School. Now to the positions ; Dania played in goal with Vishaali, Layla, Amrissar and Umairah in defence ; the midfielders , Dania and Simran with Ria as a striker. Overall we played well as a team. We took some time to make sure we always spoke to each other and took shots on goal when we had the chance. Unfortunately we didn’t get past the semi-finals.

Mother’s day present room
We are really pleased to share that the Mother’s Day present room has raised over £400. This is great news for the children who are coming forward with some great ideas on how to invest the money!
One of our Long Close parents Taran Kaur is running the London Marathon in April to raise money for a great charity called Heart UK. She has been working amazingly hard to get herself ready for the challenge, you can read more about her story and the charity she is raising money for here –https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TaranKaur
