Welcome Ms. McBride

An experienced headteacher who founded and led an outstanding London school and has set up British schools in the Middle East is bringing her expertise and energy to Berkshire.

Ms. Melissa McBride has been appointed headmistress of Long Close School in Slough and takes up the post in September. Outgoing headmaster Mr. Brendan Pavey is leaving to take on the headship at North Bridge House. Both schools are part of the Cognita Schools group.

Ms. McBride is an experienced head teacher within the independent schools’ sector, having been founding Head at Wandsworth Prep School which was rated outstanding during her tenure in 2013 and most recently in the Middle East where she led the set-up of two international British curriculum schools as Head and Education Director.     Prior to moving into Headship, Ms. McBride spent seven years at Thomas’s Battersea in London as Head of Year and as a teaching member of the prep school department up to 13+ Common Entrance.

She is currently working at Cognita Head Office as Education Advisor to the Group CEO, where she has been supporting the setup of the Education Advisory Board for the company since March 2017.

As an experienced teacher secondary trained teacher in Humanities and English, throughout her career Ms. McBride has taken on the professional challenge of developing her teaching knowledge and expertise across the age range from Early Years to A Level.     Having spent 2 years abroad leading the set up and foundation of new schools in the Middle East, Melissa’s career to date has overseen worldwide pastoral and academic provision, and a wide variety in education and academic excellence in nationwide schools.

Current expansion plans for the school, include an extended library, a new Reception classroom and a senior common room area. This is all part of the future investment in the school and showcases the growth and security of LCS. Parents and pupils are delighted at the news which will be unveiled in September 2017.
